Chapter 100: The Master's Embarrassment
***
As soon as the group entered the chamber, the jiaoshe initially regarded them as potential prey. However, it sensed something extraordinary about the young girl who had brought a white snake with her—an aura that suppressed it, a sign of a true snake king.
Thus, it had to adopt a defensive posture.
But what was that delicious-looking thing the girl was feeding the white snake? It could sense that it was something precious, and it wanted it too.
Moreover, the girl had a comforting aura about her, prompting the jiaoshe to communicate with her.
In the past, it had tried to communicate with humans, but no one had ever understood its message except its former master.
"How about this? If you want the spirit essence, I can give it to you, but you must form a master-servant contract with me and become my spirit companion. I will provide you with plenty of spirit essence," Tang Ailian enticed the jiaoshe.
Tang Ailian had no intention of keeping this cumbersome snake as a pet, especially when her little white snake was much cuter. However, if the jiaoshe transformed into a dragon in the future, she could use it as a mount for her medical journeys, which sounded thrilling.
But she hadn't considered when or if the jiaoshe would actually transform into a dragon. And even if it did, would it allow her to ride it?
A contract? The jiaoshe was reluctant. It had gone through great efforts to sever its contract with the evil cultivator and regain its freedom. It had no intention of surrendering its fate to someone else again.
But if it didn't form a contract with the girl, she wouldn't give it the spirit essence it desired. Spirit essence, the most spiritually potent substance it had encountered in centuries, was too tempting to resist.
Tang Ailian, seeing the jiaoshe hesitating, continued, "Don't you want to become a dragon? In this world with thin spiritual energy, your cultivation will stagnate. Even if you cultivate for thousands of years, you won't become a dragon. Do you have thousands of years left in your lifespan? Consider it carefully. I'll go in and see if there's anything useful. Don't stop me; these things don't belong to you. I killed that ghost cultivator, so everything here is my spoils of war."
The jiaoshe, knowing the rules, couldn't stop her and let her pass.
Little White naturally followed her, protective as ever.
In the meantime, Director Zeng and his group were envious. They had seen the treasures inside this chamber but hadn't managed to claim a single one. Now, Tang Ailian had entered, and they hoped she would take all the treasures.
Inside, Tang Ailian discovered exactly what her telepathic sensing had revealed. The room was filled with shelves displaying various treasures.
She couldn't help but be impressed by the collection of the ghost cultivator. He had gathered quite an array of valuable items, and it seemed he'd displayed everything here.
Then, her attention was drawn to a small, unattractive pouch about the size of her palm. Something about it captivated her, making it impossible to look away.
Using her telepathic abilities, Tang Ailian peered inside the pouch and was astounded by what she saw. It contained a space that was about five or six cubic meters in size!
The space held various items: a long sword, a small hammer, a lengthy rope, and several sets of ancient men's clothing, unmistakably artifacts.
One corner of the pouch contained piles of jade stones, cut into pieces approximately the length of two fingers placed side by side. They were neatly stacked into several piles.
The quality of these jade stones varied, with the best ones being nearly transparent, numbering just over a dozen. Semi-transparent ones were more than a hundred in quantity, and the rest were still of higher quality than any she had ever seen.
To a cultivator, these were clearly spirit stones.
In addition, there were some jade boxes, and inside them were herbs. Unfortunately, these herbs had withered and lost their potency over the years, likely rendering them useless, even the supposed antidote pills.
Tang Ailian was amazed by her discovery. Was this the legendary storage pouch? It would save her the trouble of transporting items to her medicine well space.
However, she couldn't fit the pouch into her medicine well space; it simply wouldn't go in. She decided to hang it from her waist instead.
Yet, there was more to investigate. Tang Ailian continued to explore the chamber, and whenever she found something she liked, she used her telekinesis to store it in her medicine well space.
She couldn't help but wish she had more storage pouches, as the current one had a limited capacity.
This chamber had initially belonged to the ghost cultivator, and since he'd lost his physical body, his usual storage pouch wasn't with him but rather here in the treasure chamber. Finding another storage pouch like it was impossible.
Nevertheless, Tang Ailian kept scouring the room, taking any items that caught her eye. Soon, the chamber's treasures were reduced by nearly a tenth.
She thought about Zhao Lu and the others and, from her medicine well space, retrieved two large hemp sacks filled with various items.
Tang Ailian's actions made Little White roll its eyes internally, thinking, "The master is so embarrassing! She's an immortal cultivator, yet she's taking mundane items from here. I hope no one ever finds out that she's my master."
As Tang Ailian exited the treasure chamber, she found the jiaoshe still guarding the entrance. Seeing her carrying two large sacks, it blocked her path.
