Chapter 18: The Appearance of a Rival from the Past

-------------------------

It was clearly an old pomelo tree, but why did it sound like a child's voice?

"Are you a wizard?" the pomelo tree sent another message to Tang Ailian. "My inherited knowledge tells me that only wizards can communicate with us. Wait, you're so young; you must be a reincarnated wizard."

Tang Ailian was about to say that she wasn't a wizard, but then she realized that she was practicing the Divine Doctor's Arts, which were essentially wizardry. She quickly replied, "I'm a reincarnated Divine Doctor!"

To better communicate with the old pomelo tree, Tang Ailian took advantage of her mother's conversation with her grandmother to ask her sister Aishi to hold her. When Aishi picked her up, she immediately pointed at the pomelo tree. Aishi carried Tang Ailian to the pomelo tree in the courtyard, and Tang Ailian got down.

Aishi had no choice but to put her down, and Tang Ailian sat on a bench under the pomelo tree, playing with a ball of yarn hanging from her hat.

In reality, her psychic power had already established a complete connection with the pomelo tree.

"Pomelo tree, have you become a spirit?"

"No, I've been dormant, and you woke me up," the pomelo tree replied honestly. Then it said, "I can bear two to three hundred sweet pomelos every year, and they're delicious. When I bear fruit, you must come and eat."

Tang Ailian promised, "Sure, I'll come when your fruit is ripe."

The pomelo tree expressed its excitement, "I smell a pleasant fragrance coming from you. You must have something good on you. Can you share a little with me?"

Tang Ailian immediately thought of the medicinal well. The pomelo tree was quite impressive to detect the scent of spiritual water.

"Alright, I'll give you some." Delighted, Tang Ailian extended her hand while her sister Aishi was talking to her uncle and gave the pomelo tree some medicinal well water.

The pomelo tree drank the water and became even happier. "Little Divine Doctor, you've given me a treasure, so I want to give you a gift."

"Oh? What gift?" Tang Ailian was curious. What could a pomelo tree give her?

"It's something humans like. It's buried under my roots. I will push it up with my roots, but it will take some time. You can come back later to get it."

At this point, Aishi was carrying Tang Ailian away, so Tang Ailian sent a message, "Then I'll come back later to get it."

During lunch, Tang Ailian ate a few bites of food fed by her sister Aishi and then stopped eating. Instead, she pulled Aishi and babbled while pointing outside.

"Eat your food; you can't go outside," Aishi patiently advised her.

Tang Ailian felt wronged and began to cry. She kept making noises, and Aishi finally relented, carrying her outside to the pomelo tree. Tang Ailian slipped down from her sister's arms and plopped down on the ground beneath the tree, refusing to move despite Aishi's attempts to coax her.

Aishi, seeing that her sister wanted to play, reluctantly found a piece of nylon cloth to put under Tang Ailian. She let her sit under the pomelo tree while she went back inside to eat.

Tang Ailian immediately sent a message, "Pomelo tree, I'm here. Please bring me your gift!"

"Wait a moment." True to its word, the pomelo tree used its roots to push up an object from beneath the ground. Tang Ailian looked back to make sure no one was watching, then quickly sent the object into the medicinal well space. She then smoothed out the ground where the roots had emerged and gave the tree some medicinal well water to drink, causing it to express its gratitude repeatedly.

Tang Ailian suddenly had a feeling and looked up. She saw a little girl standing outside her maternal grandfather's courtyard gate. The girl appeared to be around two years old, with curly hair and bright eyes. While most rural children didn't wear dresses, she was dressed in a lovely one-piece dress, looking very well-groomed.

The girl looked at Tang Ailian with a furrowed brow and asked, "Who are you?"

Tang Ailian's mind suddenly clicked: Could this be a younger version of Liu Qingyu?

In her previous life, Liu Qingyu was a year and a half older than her and had married Li Xinye after he broke up with Tang Ailian.

Tang Ailian stared at her blankly, recalling everything from her past life. She felt a sense of resentment, but she quickly suppressed it. What happened in her past life was already in the past, and in this life, she had been reborn with a chance to change everything.

"You—" Liu Qingyu felt intimidated by Tang Ailian's gaze. She suddenly rushed towards Tang Ailian and tried to push her.

Tang Ailian was surprised by Liu Qingyu's aggression. Did Liu Qingyu always have such a domineering personality from a young age? She couldn't let Liu Qingyu push her, so she quickly entered her spatial realm and disappeared.

Liu Qingyu's forceful push failed to connect, causing her to lose her balance and fall down with a loud cry.

Seeing Liu Qingyu rush forward and fall, Tang Ailian reappeared, giving her a look of disdain.

Aishi, who had heard Liu Qingyu cry, rushed over and saw Tang Ailian's disdainful expression. She was initially shocked but then saw the frightened look in Tang Ailian's eyes, which made her think that Tang Ailian had been scared by Liu Qingyu. Aishi immediately scolded, "What happened, Qingyu? Did someone bully you?"

Liu Qingyu, still crying, pointed at Tang Ailian and said, "She pushed me!"

Everyone present saw two-year-old Liu Qingyu and six-month-old Tang Ailian. They couldn't believe that such a small child could push someone. In fact, it was Liu Qingyu who had rushed towards Tang Ailian, but due to the appearance of the pomelo tree's roots, she had tripped and fallen.

"Aiya, Qingyu, did you make a mistake?" Aishi quickly defended her younger sister. "Our Ailian is only six months old. How could she push you? It's more likely that you came to push her, and you tripped by yourself, right?"

In truth, Liu Qingyu couldn't understand how she had fallen when she had tried to push Tang Ailian. She had intended to push Ailian, not fall herself. However, the pomelo tree's roots had suddenly emerged, causing her to trip. She had actually tripped on her own.

Liu Qingyu's mother glared at Aishi and carried Liu Qingyu away without saying a word. She didn't even greet Liu Yiping, who had come to visit them.
