Chapter 71: Do You Want to Kill Me
***
Tang Ailian ignored him. She was a bit displeased with the boy who had eagerly accepted the techniques she had offered to Xifei Fan earlier.
After distributing the biscuits and candies to everyone, Xifei Fan finally handed one portion to Feng Ming. Tang Ailian also filled plastic bottles with spirit water and gave each person a sip. Finally, everyone was full and their spirits were lifted.
After driving for over an hour, they were about to leave the county and enter the mountains. Tang Ailian was getting anxious. Why hadn't the authorities arrived yet? Did the boy not report the incident?
After another ten minutes of driving, their vehicle was stopped by a traffic police officer. "Stop the car, we need to check."
Tang Ailian was worried if the car would stop. There were children inside, and a thorough check would reveal the problem. Could they handle these ruthless traffickers if it was indeed the police?
As expected, Tang Ailian's telepathic ability heard the low voice of the Land Rover's command, "Drive through!"
The driver immediately accelerated and rushed past the traffic police.
Due to the sudden acceleration, the children's bodies leaned backward due to inertia, some even tumbled inside the compartment, and cries of "mom" and "dad" filled the air.
Tang Ailian hurriedly shouted, "Listen to me, don't cry. Hold on to something nearby, or grab each other tightly! We will be rescued soon."
The traffic police quickly gave way, but another person, pretending to be a police officer, shot at them with a crossbow. There was a loud bang, and the tire burst. The vehicle skidded but did not overturn.
A group of people quickly approached to capture Tang Ailian and the others.
Tang Ailian scanned with her telepathic ability and realized that the Land Rover slowed down when the children cried for their parents. When the vehicle resumed, it had to accelerate gradually in each gear. Thus, when the car was intercepted, its speed was not very high, and it only had a tire punctured instead of overturning.
If the speed had been higher, the traffickers might not have dared to shoot at the vehicle's tires. Instead, they might have taken the children hostage. After all, these traffickers were aware of the situation and had abducted so many children. No matter what happened to the children, their actions were extremely sinister, and they would face severe punishment if caught.
Tang Ailian remembered that in her previous life, core members like the Land Rover were killed by a sniper. Of course, that was because three children died in the previous life. This time, with her as an undercover agent, all three children had been saved, and the traffickers would probably not be killed like before. However, the main culprits would likely be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, a staff member opened the car door and said, "You're rescued! You—"
The children inside the car seemed to be in good spirits, which surprised the staff member. He had expected to see them in a more distressed and weakened state, even close to death. There was no sign of children crying for their parents either.
"Old Mong, what's going on?" another person behind him found it strange. Old Mong was carrying a wooden box, indicating that he was a doctor.
"It's nothing, no need to check. Let's go back to the commune first," Old Mong said.
He found it strange that these children seemed to have undergone some training. However, he decided to suppress his doubts and made a quick decision.
The doctor, unaware that the children had consumed Tang Ailian's spirit water and were stimulated by her biscuits, reluctantly agreed.
The car returned to the commune and parked in the courtyard.
The car finally stopped. The door was opened, and a beam of light illuminated the compartment.
"Get out," Old Mong called to the children. He had placed a wooden stool at the car's door and reached out his hand to help them down.
However, the children sat still, not moving or reaching out to accept his help. They had biscuits in their hands, and the staff members didn't provide any food when they arrived at the commune. Instead, they just locked the door after bringing the children inside.
The hungry children continued to eat their biscuits, not crying or making a fuss. They seemed to accept being locked up in a different place. They probably assumed it was just a change of location.
After a while, a young policewoman with short hair in a police uniform opened the meeting room's door. "Who's Tang Ailian?"
"I am," a short-haired round-faced boy stood up. Tang Ailian recognized him as the only boy in the van who hadn't sworn to be her little brother.
Although he hadn't been abducted from the restaurant, he was still considered one of the abducted children. It explained why the police acted so swiftly.
The policewoman left, and about an hour later, she returned and asked, "Who is Tang Ailian?"
Tang Ailian was surprised. Was she being questioned too?
"Don't worry; no one is going to give you a hard time," the policewoman seemed to sense Tang Ailian's unease.
Tang Ailian's lips curled upwards, and her mood suddenly improved. "Thank you, sister."
