Chapter 85: Poison in the Revival Soup
***
As Tang Ailian descended the stairs, a burly man glared at her and exclaimed angrily, "You little brat, you act so high and mighty, thinking you have real skills. Who would have thought you're a fake? My workers almost died from your medicine! Someone, grab her!"
A worker reached out to grab Tang Ailian.
Tang Ailian couldn't allow herself to be carried into the patient's room, maintaining her image as a skilled healer. She swiftly dodged the worker's large hand and retorted, "Lead the way."
The worker, though surprised by her agility, grudgingly agreed and led the way to the patient's room. He quickened his pace, but Tang Ailian kept up with him effortlessly.
They eventually reached the door of the patient's room. Tang Ailian, seemingly ignoring everyone inside, asked, "Who among you can help this patient with the poisoning?"
She glanced at each person inside, starting with Zhao Shuji, then Zhao Shuji's assistant, and finally a Daoist priest who appeared to be around forty years old, exuding an air of serenity and wisdom.
Upon hearing footsteps, both Zhao Shuji and the assistant turned to look at Tang Ailian. Zhao Shuji appeared anxious, while the assistant wore a scornful expression.
Tang Ailian ignored their reactions and walked directly into the room, inquiring, "Which patient was affected by my medicine?"
She seemed not to notice the patient lying on the bed.
Zhao Shuji pointed to the worker with darkened skin on the bed and replied, "It's him. Yesterday, you had all those afflicted by Yin energy take your medicine. Luckily, I had the most severely affected worker try your medicine first. Look, he took it yesterday, and today he's in this state."
Tang Ailian didn't pay much attention to Zhao Shuji's mocking tone or the anger in his words. She approached the patient and said, "This man is poisoned. Let's not argue about who poisoned him for now. I'll focus on saving him first."
She reached out to check the patient's pulse, but her hand was blocked by someone. The man said, "Don't think that just because you've used your master's medicine to save a few people, you're a real doctor. This isn't a playground for kids like you. You don't understand the intricacies of treating patients, so stay away from them."
Tang Ailian looked up at the man who had blocked her hand, the same white-coated physician she had encountered during her previous visit. She couldn't help but wonder if his newfound arrogance was due to having powerful backing, likely Jiang Chang.
"What's your name?" Tang Ailian asked calmly.
The white-coated man hesitated before responding, "I'm Dr. Qiu."
Tang Ailian continued, "Dr. Qiu, can you save this patient?"
Dr. Qiu angrily retorted, "He's poisoned by your medicine. How do I know what poison is in it? We need to know the poison's nature to develop an antidote. Tell me, what kind of poison did you use?"
"Let's not discuss who poisoned him for now. I'm here to help solve the problem, right? So why are you preventing me from examining the patient?" Tang Ailian maintained her calm demeanor.
Dr. Qiu was left speechless. He couldn't admit that his intention was not to solve the problem but to manipulate Tang Ailian, the young girl.
"Can anyone here help him with the poison?" Tang Ailian asked, looking at each person one by one.
Addressing Jiang Chang, she questioned, "Can you?"
Without waiting for his response, she turned to Zhao Shuji and inquired, "Can you?"
Finally, she directed her gaze at the Daoist priest and asked, "Or perhaps this Daoist can?"
Jiang Chang erupted in anger, "I can handle it. Why would we need you, a little brat, here? If you don't understand treating patients, stay away from them!"
However, he quickly suppressed his anger and continued, "Since it's your poison, you should be the one to cure it!"
Zhao Shuji, on the other hand, had changed from a worried expression to a relaxed one, indicating his trust in Tang Ailian. He smiled and replied, "I can't do it. Tang Little Divine Doctor, please proceed."
The Daoist priest had been observing Tang Ailian with an odd expression since her arrival. When she turned to him, he made a gesture indicating that he could help but suggested she take the lead.
With no one opposing her now, Tang Ailian approached the patient and pretended to take his pulse while scanning his body with her psychic power. She quickly identified the presence of a toxin derived from a flower called "Yanxin Grass," a rare poison.
Despite the complexity of the situation, Tang Ailian knew exactly which antidote to use based on her knowledge as a witch doctor and the resources in her well of medicine.
"He's been poisoned by Yanxin Grass extract, administered at approximately 8:10 AM today. Fortunately, he had consumed my Revival Soup yesterday, which increased his body's resistance and formed a protective spiritual barrier around his heart. That's why he's still alive. Otherwise, he would have died by now."
As Tang Ailian spoke, she reached into her backpack and retrieved a medicinal herb. She crushed it and placed it in the patient's mouth, then poured a half-bottle of spiritual water into his mouth.
She concluded, "Wait for about ten minutes, and the poison will be neutralized. However, there was no Yanxin Grass in my Revival Soup, so the poison wasn't in my medicine."
Dr. Qiu sneered, "But he only took one type of medicine from last night until now, which was your Revival Soup."
He took out the bottle of Revival Soup that Tang Ailian had provided, "I checked it. There is poison in this Revival Soup of yours."
Tang Ailian accepted the bottle, sniffed it, and tasted a bit with her tongue, then furrowed her brows. "You're right, there is Yanxin Grass poison in this Revival Soup. However, it was added later." She looked back at Zhao Shuji.
Zhao Shuji became furious, demanding to know who was responsible.
